5 Powerful Tips for Overcoming Adversity

Life’s tough. No matter how lucky or affluent we are, we will always face challenging situations.

That’s life.

To varying degrees, we all suffer sadness, grief, frustration, and despair.

In a challenging situation, a good old-fashioned inspiring phrase can help. However, airy-fairy can be really aggravating.

Sometimes you need practical adversity-overcoming tips. Tips you may apply to see results, albeit slowly.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably struggling. Maybe you’ve been down on your luck or received bad news before and want to be better prepared for the next time.

These strategies will help you get through challenging situations no matter what.

Since we all react and cope differently, they don’t work for everyone. One of these could defend your emotional and physical health while tackling life’s numerous obstacles.

1- Try not to dwell

It’s very important to talk to close friends or family members when you’re having a hard time.

Getting things off your chest can help you figure out how you feel because when we say what we’re thinking, we often have a moment of clarity.

Throw yourself into those conversations when the time is right and you’re talking to someone who cares about you but try not to talk about it all the time.

You can also get away from your problems by asking people about their lives.

If you can’t stop thinking about the problem you’re dealing with, give yourself a lot of other things to think about. You can keep your mind busy by listening to podcasts.

2- Write what bothers you in your diary.

When we’re feeling down, it can be very tempting to just curl up into a ball and do nothing. Don’t fall into that trap.

Even though you should rest and eat well, you should also keep yourself busy by having planned a couple of nights a week and giving yourself enough time to relax.

Plan to see some of the people you’re grateful to have in your life and do some of the things you love.

If money is tight, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on fun things. Instead, think of ways to have fun for free or almost free.

Even if your main problem is that you’re too busy and stressed, taking the time to do things you enjoy at your own pace could be just what you need to feel like yourself again.

3- Set small goals

This is a great way to feel like you’ve done something every day. I don’t know about you, but my to-do lists used to be filled with very big, vague goals that I almost never got to cross off.

When you break everything down into smaller goals and put everyday things on your list, like doing the dishes, you really feel like you’re making progress.

Every day, try to do one thing for your professional growth, one thing for other people, one useful thing, and one thing that feeds your soul.

This could mean finally sending that email, getting together with a friend who is also having a hard time, doing the laundry, or reading a chapter of a book.

If you don’t think those four things are right for you, change them to fit your needs. If you can check off four things every day, your life will seem to have more direction and purpose, no matter what is happening.

4- Take charge of your own life.

It’s not easy to be responsible for your situation, especially when it’s out of your hands.

But if you act like a victim and put your life on the back burner, you take away your power and feel like you can’t do anything about the situation.

You just have to accept that life is a roller coaster of highs and lows.

And if you want to enjoy the ride, you have to accept the two sides without getting in the way.

When life gives us a bad hand, we sometimes think that life is against us.

But every bad thing that happens to us is meant to make us better versions of ourselves.

When you take responsibility for your life and your situation, you are better able to deal with the hard times that life can bring.

5- Learn how to let go

Accept that you can’t always do what you want. If you’re holding on too tightly, you might be causing yourself extra stress, which can make your problems worse.

There are a lot of things you can’t change in the world right now.

Feeling like you can’t do anything about something that worries or frustrates you can make you feel more stressed.

Training your brain to focus on what you can control instead of what you can’t help you feel less anxious and hopeful.
